Finnish Archipelago, the Archipelago Sea, is known for its beauty. It is a well-known holiday destination for Finns as many families have their holiday homes, mökkis, in the archipelago. It includes tens of thousands of small islands and skerries as well as picturesque villages with a slow tempo of life.
However, the region is also known for ferry time tables impossible to understand, ”hidden” services only the local people are aware of and Swedish language which is the native language for most of the people. Those are probably the main reasons why people have not yet visited the region.
There is not so much information available of the region, especially in other languages than Swedish and Finnish. That, by no doubt, makes the Archipelago Sea a hidden gem as a holiday destination, despite the fact that it has been chosen as one of the top destinations to travel by e.g. Travel+Leisure magazine.
People visit the Archipelago Sea mainly for its slow life and stunning nature. There are several National Parks nearby. Also cycling has been made easy, as the new Coastal Route and Archipelago Trail are well marked and filled with services cyclist might need, luggage transfer included.
If ”Live like a local” is part of your holiday attitude, Kimitoön, the gate to the Archipelago Sea, is reachable in 2,5 hours by public transportation from Helsinki. If not, we are more than happy to meet you at Helsinki-Vantaa airport or in a hotel in downtown Helsinki, and drive you to visit us. The experiences by the Archipelago Sea are waiting for you!
